Hey guys,
So I was talking to a good friend of mine the other day...sitting in a McDonald's no less. The conversation quickly turned from normal stuff like "hi, how are yous" and "you have a piece of lettuce on your lip" to a deep conversation. Essentially, it centered around the dreams we had in our lives. You know when you're young, those dreams just seem so close and so attainable that it doesn't matter who says what to you, you'll just continue to blast imaginary fireballs out from your palms. Dragon Ball, man, gotta love it.
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that life kind of steals away our youthfulness. We go through life and try to be what others want us to be, or worse yet, try to be what we think others should want us to be. You know what I mean? In high school, teachers try to mold you, change you and bring out usable skills/knowledge/talents from you. By usable, I mean for the good of society as a whole. Need some examples?
MATH - if you're good at it, you get placed in the advanced class where they continue to drill your problem solving skills, arithmetic skills and logic skills until all you know how to do is come up with equations, proofs and support for your ideas. This is all in an effort to advance human kind in terms of new technology, new shortcuts and new ways to make things more convenient for more people.
SCIENCE - much like math, science seeks to force an understanding of the world around you through endless memorization of processes, laws, and rules that the world falls under. This constant training does little for your social life and even less for those dreams of yours, an endless quest for more knowledge is where this path leads you. And at the end? You get to be released into the world to discover more things in order to build bigger screens, go farther in space, deeper into the oceans and find out why tree bark sometimes smells like honey but never tastes like it.
ARTS - don't be fooled kids, just because the word "liberal" is usually placed before this category, it doesn't mean you'll have the freedom. Art has ceased to be what it used to be, a simple way to convey emotions, ideas, concepts to a wide audience that transcended language, age and racial barriers. Now you have art books and art classes which drill you on proper form, colour, and brush stroke. You have drama classes that drill you on proper air control for a stage voice, proper spacing and body position to get the most effect. What's this for? Money. Art must be accepted by people to raise in value, and acceptance comes from a standard of art (those that meet the acceptable standard of brush stroke, color, etc, gain fame and money) and what about drama? Oh, it is also stained by the green of money, here we breed actors for Broadway and movies, for what? For money, for entertainment. See, even the purest forms don't seem to do our dreams justice.
So, back to our discussion. What's my dream? My simple dream was to make videos, not just random videos but videos with depth...Dealing with the subtleties of human emotion and conversation. Much like short films made by little known writers and directors, working out of coffee shops and hotel rooms. Such is my dream...so there's the first step in the journey...the goal setting.
I want to make a video series.

A Whole New World?
BAM! And with a resounding crash of cymbals and gongs, along with other such glorious noises I've made my way back to the internet. Gosh, I've been gone so long that the whole landscape is different, youtube is now full of vloggers and I mean full. I don't mean full like up-to-the-top-of-the-glass-without-foaming-over-getting-your-hands-all-sticky type of full, I mean too full! Too sticky...er wait...scratch that!
I remember my first vlog ever on youtube, I had made a pretty lofty statement and telling all my viewers that I wouldn't be making anything with a gimmick. Later, Ask an Asian came out and got some small success, did I sell out? Probably. Haha. But for those of you who care, I'm back and will be staying. Videos got a little hard to produce with my busy (ahem, lazy) schedule and I couldn't find my passion anymore but hopefully with you guys (the people still subscribed to me amazingly! THANK YOU!!!) at my side I know I can make it to the upper peaks of Mt. Olympy-outube! (try pronouncing that...it's actually pretty funny)
That all being said, here's where a lot of my random ramblings will come from and if its a hit or not completely lame, I'll make a video about it and promise to make it:
1) Funny
2) Interesting
3) Entertaining
4) Not worthy of the dreaded mid-video close button press
So here's hoping for some measure of success out there in the world. Feel free to let anyone know about my blog and feel free to drop any kinds of ideas for videos or just hang around and have some tea and conversation with me!
Thanks guys for your continued support and hope to talk to a camera lens (you guys!) soon!
And AWAYYYYYYYYYYY I go!
